Altered photographs are commonplace nowadays. Just about any camera-produced image your eyes absorb has been tinkered with in one way or another. But it wasn’t always so. Photographic manipulation has been around for about as long as photography itself has, but it was definitely not as widely encountered as it is today. This is primarily because it took some serious know-how and imaginative resourcefulness to achieve desired results. The year 1989 changed all that. This was the year the very first version of Photoshop was released, and along with that debut, married with exponential advances in modern, easily accessible technology came the near limitless possibilities we know today. This collection of ┬ástriking photography illustrates what the world of photo manipulation was before the mouse, monitor and keyboard.
