The Struggles of An Aging Superhero

Superhero’s have long since made their way into popular culture. These larger than life men and women often represent the ideals of society, working fruitlessly to fight off crime and make the world a safer place for all. But these super-humans have limitations like the rest of us. They need to eat and live and they also age. This idea is what Swedish Artist Andreas Englund explores in his ongoing series of photorealistic paintings called The Aging Superhero.

The series showcases, as Philipp Windmüller stated, that “Even in the old age, it is still possible to achieve something valuable although someone’s drive and vigour (sic) won’t bluster out explosively.” Many of the panels are available for sale through Englund’s website, either as an original artwork or a limited edition print.
