The Staiway to Heaven Exists in Australia

Seemingly defying physics, a new sculpture by installation artist David McCracken titled Diminish and Ascend graces the bank of Australia’s Bondi Bay is part of the city’s annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibit. McCracken’s uniquely crafted sculpture plays with perspectives, simulating distance by decreasing in size as it nears its highest and furthest point from eye-level.

Set to Bondi Bay’s idyllic backdrop, this phenomenal sculpture seems to rise from the earth and into the heavens, as many visitors have taken note. My Modern Met recently compiled a collection of photos of the sculpture from various photographers, our favorite, by Paul David is included above. Check out the article on My Modern Met for additional views of McCracken’s piece, which is now open to the public.
