Cinemagraph by Melanie Gapany for MiamiAlive.com

Previously, we discussed the qualities that make for a really cool animated gif known as a cinemagraph. Building on traditional .gif files, the cinemagraph takes the file format from Internet joke standard to artform, employing the animated capabilities of the .gif format to create beautifully composed shots that seem to magically move on the screen.

In that post, we shared a select number of .gif cinemagraphs with you and highlighted what we thought worked about them. Since then, we’ve scoured the world wide web, keeping track of our favorite .gif images, compiled below, and presented without comment for your enjoyment. If by the end of this you’re curious on how to make cinemagraphs and .gifs of your own, check out the end of our previously mentioned post, where you will find links to several easy to follow. tutorials.
