These days, it’s easy to look at an out-of-this-world image and assume it was photoshopped. So many of the images that we face on a day-to-day basis, from the mundane to the unbelievable, have been retouched and edited. It is almost easier to just assume that images are photoshopped before considering whether or not they are in fact real.

Russian photographer Katerina Plotnikova’s work, for example, could be easily mistaken for a photoshopped work. The dreamy, ethereal women clad in flowing princess dresses, cuddling bears, snakes and foxes that her images portray could easily be a work of fiction. But what makes them truly impressive is that the photographer chooses to work with real animals, rather than artificially implant them into her photos in the digital darkroom.
