Photography by the Homeless of London

Cafe Art, a UK-based initiative that helps the homeless express themselves through art and photography, handed out 100 Fujifilm disposable cameras in July to London’s homeless community. The Royal Photographic Society provided the newfound photographers with basic hands-on training, and then the 100 photographers were sent out into the streets to capture images of the city under the theme “My London”.

In the end, 80 of the cameras were returned resulting in over 2,500 images. Of those, 20 were chosen by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from companies as Fujifilm, the London Photo Festival, Christie’s, Amateur Photographer and Homeless Link. The selected images, which Cafe Art is raising funds in order to compile into a calendar, showcase the special relationship that the people who live in the streets, nooks and crannies of London have with the city.

According to Cafe Art, the proceeds from sales of the calendar goes back into the project, and is used either to print photographs or calendars, rewarding photographers, and the purchase of materials.

Below are some selected shots from the series. You can find additional info on the project here and on the Kickstarter.
