Nuance: A Light Dance That Will Blow Your Mind

Light has forever been a central element in art. From photography to painting to stage performances to film, light affects the way art is created and perceived. Now, French filmmaker Marc-Antoine Locatelli seems to want to convince us that light isn’t just part of art, it is art itself. In his new short film, Nuance, a dancer is filmed in a rhythmic stop-motion, his body jerking as the plays with an orb of light to mimic the motions created in the edIT track used as a soundtrack.

The short is the product of a school project at the Beaux-Arts d’Epinal, where Locatelli and fellow students were asked to imagine how art would continue to evolve. Watch the film in it’s fascinating entirety below.
