Meet Miito: A Better Kettle

In a recent article, Wired shined a spotlight on Miito, an incredible alternative for a traditional electric kettle. At first glance, it is hard to see how a hockey puck shaped plate can replace a traditional kettle. But Mitto does just that. Comprised of a portable induction stove and a magnetic electric rod that gets dunked into whatever cup of liquid is sitting on top of the Miito, the device creates heat through induction; the rod gets hot, heating up the liquid along with it.

But just why is one small induction oven so important? well, according to a TED talk given by design consultant Leyla Acaroglu in 2013 , In the United Kingdom alone, 65 percent of tea drinkers overfill their kettles and boil more water than is needed for a cup of tea, ultimately putting to waste enough energy in one day of kettle usage to light all the streetlights in London for a night.
