The Chippensteel Chair Inflated Metal, designed by Oskar Zieta has got to be one of the most visually stunning pieces of furniture we’ve seen in a long time. The chair, made of laser-cut, robot-welded, high-pressure-inflated and polished sheet steel, reminds us of a Jeff Koons sculpture.
Created through FiDU (Freielnnen Druck Umformung) – or ‘free inner pressure deformation’ – a manufacturing process developed by Polish designer and engineer Oskar Zieta, whereby flat, welded steel sheets are industrially inflated. This new process allows for the creation of complex, lightweight and weight-bearing forms while using only a minimal amount of material.
Produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces and available here.
