Chicago Couple Pulls Their Luck on Their DIY Floor Project

Looking to redecorate a room in your home, but need some inspiration? How about giving yourself penny flooring? That’s what this Chicago couple did and now they’re walking on money (literally). It took Ryan Lange and Emily Belden almost 130 hours over three months to lay and glue down 59,670 pennies (almost $600 worth) to their bedroom floor.

After making some improvements as they rose through the learning curve, their process ultimately consisted of pushing out glue through a caulk gun and spreading it across the floor with a spatula. They then laid their pennies in straight lines to ensure that they lined up with no overlaps when the two sides met. They bought most of their pennies at the bank, but many of their friends also donated their unwanted chump change. This was their result.
