Capturing One Woman’s Weight Loss Through Clever Photography

When Beth Beard made the decision to get a gastric bypass surgery in 2012, she approached her long-time friend, photographer Blake Morrow, to create a series of before and after images that would capture the incredible transformation she was about to undergo. Combining the before and after shots, Morrow created a series of images in which ‘before’ Beard poses with ‘after’ to show off her striking weight loss. Morrow poses Bears as both Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Laurel and Hardy, the Prisoner and the Warden.

The images are impressive, in they they not only show off her incredible weight loss, but also capture the effect that her new body has had on her. It seems this effect was not unintentional. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Morrow explained “The portraits I created are my way of celebrating her accomplishment, and both of us had hoped that the collection of images would encourage and inspire others to commit to change in their own lives, and what that means for them.”
