heart carlow

The body is a lot of things; a series of complicated systems, a bag of blood and bones, a frontier for exploration and a place to call home. All these things combine to make the body, regardless of size, color, dexterity or flexibility, a truly beautiful thing.

Still, that doesn’t mean that everyone is lining up to explore the internal organs; they are bloody and messy and most people can’t handle that kind of thing.

Guatemalan-born artist Camila Carlow, however, was not in the least bit put off by the grotesque nature of the human body when she was developing her series Eye Heart Spleen. Instead, she transformed the vision of those normally bloody organs into art by using array of flowers and beautifully laid-out leaves.

The series is currently featured on My Modern Met and is also available as a book that can be purchased from Carlow’s website.
